Familiarization Tour by AIG Gyogon Augustine Grimah psc, FCAI to Sokoto State Police Command

As part of his official duties, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 10, Sokoto, AIG Gyogon Augustine Grimah psc, FCAI, embarked on a familiarization tour to the Sokoto State Police Command on April 24, 2025.

The AIG was warmly received by the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ahmed Musa psc, who delivered a welcoming address highlighting the structure, challenges, and strategic importance of the Command. CP Ahmed Musa noted that the Sokoto State Police Command was established in 1976 and currently comprises four area commands and thirty-one Divisional Headquarters. It also hosts MOPOL 7, which is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police. the command is significantly overstretched.

CP Ahmed Musa emphasized the strategic location of the Command, which shares borders with Zamfara, Kebbi, and the Niger Republic, thereby exposing it to various security threats including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, housebreaking, and other criminal activities. Despite these challenges, the command remains committed to continuous training and retraining of personnel and takes pride in hosting the Zonal Headquarters. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to seek the continuous guidance, advice, and support of the AIG in addressing the prevailing security issues.

In his address, AIG Gyogon Augustine Grimah psc, FCAI, commended the efforts of the Command and advised on the efficient utilization of available resources to combat security threats effectively. He further addressed critical issues affecting the performance and integrity of the Force, including:

1. Upholding discipline across all ranks.

2. Eliminating illegal detentions and unauthorized investigations.

3. Ensuring proper documentation through accurate entries.

4. Promoting professionalism in both on duty and off duty conduct.

5. Preventing human rights abuses.

6. Enhancing supervision and conducting regular visiting rounds.

7. Correcting improper dressing, especially the wearing of mufti without name tags or force numbers.

8. Maintaining strict custody and accountability for arms and ammunition.

9. Adhering to social media policies and professional codes of conduct.

10. Prioritizing general welfare and regular medical checks.

11. Deepening knowledge of the operational environment.

The visit underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to reinforce professionalism, improve operational standards, and strengthen the fight against crime in Sokoto State and the Zone at large.
