FCT POLICE COMMAND PARTNERS GS FOUNDATION TO HOST “PLAY FOR TRUST” FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT WITH GARKI YOUTHS.

The FCT Police Command, in partnership with the GS Foundation, has successfully hosted a community focused football tournament tagged “Play for Trust” aimed at strengthening police community relations and fostering mutual understanding. The event, which held on September 27, 2025, at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki, brought together youths from Garki and police officers in mixed football teams for a day of sportsmanship, dialogue, and partnership building.

The tournament, supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and UNDP, featured friendly matches designed to promote unity, trust, and collaboration between law enforcement and the community. Beyond football, the event served as a platform for constructive engagement, allowing participants to interact in an informal setting and deepen cooperation in the collective fight against crime.

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, ably represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Community Policing, Research and Planning, AIG Gumel Useini, commended the initiative and reiterated the Force’s commitment to community-oriented policing. He noted that events such as this strengthen mutual respect, reduce tension, and create safer neighborhoods through collective responsibility.

The Command is working with the GS Foundation and other stakeholders to ensure that such activities are sustained across the FCT as part of ongoing efforts to build trust and enhance public safety. Members of the public are encouraged to continue to partner with the Police in reporting suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08061581938, 08032003913 CRU: 08107314192.
