New generation Singer and Songwriter KODACK has hit the airwaves again with yet another hit song titled ‘ANIMASHAUN.’
In this interview with Paul Ukpabio’s Blog, KODACK tells us about his music, what led him to drop ANIMASHAUN, and what inspires him to write songs.
So, who is KODACK?
KODACK, that’s who I am. It’s a nickname I got while I was in a Catholic secondary school, back in Imeko, Ogun state, Nigeria.
Why music? Considering that you studied mass communication, are they related in anyway?
Well, for me music is more than just sound — it’s communication in its purest form. Studying mass communication gave me the tools to understand how messages reach people, how stories connect, and how emotions spread. Music does the same thing, just without boundaries of language. So yeah, they definitely tie together — both are about reaching hearts and minds, just through different media.

As a young graduate, how do you think that will influence your music?
Being a young graduate gives me a learned perspective and approach to my music. However I try to make my music good for everyone even those who are unable to go to school as well.
At what point did you realise that you can sing? And what did you do about it?
I’ve always had a passion for music but not really for becoming an artiste. I discovered I had this talent some few years ago. My friends actually played a huge role in encouraging me back at the university campus. And that was how I started singing, first to my inner circle of friends and later to everyone and everywhere there’s opportunity to perform.
How do you describe your kind of music?
My music is unique and versatile. It spreads across board, all social strata.
Who writes your songs for you?
I write all my songs myself. (Laughs) I write songs for other artistes. That’s actually how I started out. I noticed that after writing the songs, I had a way of making it sound differently, so I started singing my songs.
Let’s talk about some of your songs?
Okay
What inspires you to write and to sing?
What inspires me most to write and sing is life itself! I sing about my experiences, emotions, and the stories of people around me. Sometimes it’s love, sometimes it’s pain, sometimes just a random moment that sparks a melody in my head. Music feels like my way of turning feelings into something real that others can connect with.
So you just released your new single ‘Animashaun’, of which, people are already saying, is good, and currently enjoying airplay, what made you to write the song?
Well Animashaun it’s about me trying to tell people that I can live my life how I want and still get to share my talent. Sometimes people say I hide my talent, and that’s not true. So Animashaun became a way of releasing my talent to the world.
Animashaun is a Yoruba word which means, ‘he who gives joy freely to all.’ In my case, it is he who gives joy to all through good music, good songs.
Animashaun is a hip-hop song with peculiar beats that comes straight from my soul. I use the music to speak to my friends and my fans generally to encourage them that freedom to give joy is the best anyone can give to humanity.

We have also heard about your music connection in Ghana, why Ghana?
Oh, that comes from family connections that we have in Ghana. And from these set of family friends, some of them are now big in music business in Ghana, they are usually listening to my songs and they say they like my songs and keep extending it to others and so on. So definitely along the line, I would be stepping out with promotional shows in Ghana soon when the time comes.
How do you fund your music talent?
I fund my music mostly through personal savings, side jobs, like graphic designing and little gigs here and there. My family also supports me and I am really grateful. Sometimes I also collaborate with friends who share the same passion so we pool resources together. It’s not easy, but when you love something, you find a way to keep it alive.
So apart from music what else do you do?
At the moment I’m working on my youth service, I also do graphic and UI/IX designs.
Do you have music role models out there?
Yeah, I got a lot of music role models out there. Davido, Gunna, and plenty of other artists—both foreign and indigenous, who keep pushing me to level up, my sound and my grind.
Do you have any music star you will like to sing with?
Yes I’d love to sing with Bnxn and Rema
Do you miss life in campus?
Oh yes, I do! Life in Campus, Adeleke University was a great time!
Any message for your fans out there?
Yeah, to all my fans out there, I just wanna say big love and respect. Keep rocking with me, keep believing!
