ZONE 2 OPERATIVES CRACK DOWN ON LARGE SCALE ENGINE OIL ADULTERATION RACKET, SUSPECT ARRESTED, 280 GALLONS OF FAKE ENGINE OIL RECOVERED
The Zone 2 Command Headquarters, under the leadership of AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade mni, psc, mnim, in its sustained fight against product adulteration and economy sabotage has recorded a breakthrough with the arrest of a suspect linked to the production, importation and distribution of adulterated engine oil products across Nigeria.
Following a written petition to the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Lagos by the complainant alleging the illegal adulteration of his engine oil product, the case was promptly referred to the Zonal Anti−Piracy Unit for detailed and discreet investigation.
A team of intelligent detectives attached to the Zonal Anti−Piracy Unit swung into action on the strength of the petition and arrested one Ngwu Samuel Ebezimakor (male, 26 years) in connection with the alleged crime. Following the arrest, the suspect confessed to being the mastermind behind the production and importation of the adulterated products from China before distributing the counterfeit products across various states of the Federation.
During intensive and intelligence−led raids carried out by the operatives of the Unit, a total of 280 gallons of adulterated engine oils were recovered from multiple locations across Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos and Ogun States.
The allegation was further corroborated by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), which confirmed after diligent examination that the recovered products do not conform with the requirements of the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards.
The Assistant Inspector general of Police reaffirms the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against product adulteration, economy sabotage and other crimes across Lagos and Ogun States while committing to the protection of consumers, safeguarding legitimate enterprise and assuring that perpetrators of economic crime are made to face the full wrath of the law.
